Spinal muscle spasm can cause reversal of the normal cervical lordosis. Physiotherapists should be working with you to relieve this spasm and reduce your pain levels. If the pain settles then the muscles will be able to relax more and a more normal posture should begin to return. My advice is to write a list of things you want explained regarding your injury and then ask your physio as they will be able to guide you further as they have treated your neck and understand how well you are doing.
As for driving my understanding is that you have to be safe to drive and the time limit is purely based on safety and your insurance. Usually for serious operations and trauma we say about 6 weeks to be safe but this can be earlier or later depending on condition and ability in your case to look over your shoulder to drive safely.

I have been diagnosed with Straight Spine Syndrome, following a road traffic accident on 28.o2.09. Iwas apassenger in a car that was rear ended by a car coming at spead round a bend. we were at a junction in a stationary position. The pain is so intence. my cervical spine has been completely flattened causing thare to be no lordosis left at all. I have been told this is due to the muscles attached to my spine going in to spasm and in turn pulling my cervical spine in to a straight position. I have been given painkillers and a set of exercises to do and have been told it can take up to 6 weeks for recovery. At the moment I cat drive my car as i have very restricted movements, can you advise me of how long it will take for me to start driving again. Please could you also give me any more nformation on this condition and if it will affect my job as a nurse?
